Interview With Kenneth C. Davis On Learning First Alliance Blog

DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT HISTORY ANNIVERSARY EDITION BY KENNETH C. DAVISKenneth C. Davis is featured in a new online interview at the Learning First Alliance blog. In the interview Ken discusses the recently published 20th-anniversary edition of his classic work, Don't Know Much About History, and how he updated the content of the book to reflect the turbulent historical times:  "The new 'Anniversary' edition of the book includes material that was added to cover the extraordinary events of the past decade or so in American History, a period I call an 'Era of Broken Trust.' These extraordinary events, beginning in the late 1990s, include corporate scandals; the dot-com bust; the deciding of a Presidential election by the Supreme Court; the scandals afflicting churches, particularly the Catholic Church; the terror strikes on 9/11; the two wars begun in the aftermath of the 'War on Terror'; Hurricane Katrina; and the "Great Recession.'"

Bestsellers: History of Science

Edward Dolnick’s The Clockwork Universe: Isaac Newton, the Royal Society, and the Birth of the Modern World lands on Library Journal's Bestsellers to College Libraries List: History of Science at number 14.

I agree with the New York Times review—which said, “Dolnick’s book is lively and the characters are vivid.” It’s a fun and heady read—and I was amazed at cast of characters: Newton and his obsession with alchemy, and, of course, the brilliant but strange Robert Hooke.

Core Course Adoption for SIMPLY CHRISTIAN

SIMPLY CHRISTIAN by N.T. WrightN.T. Wright's Simply Christian: Why Christianity Makes Sense has been adopted for a course entitled "The Making of a Christian Mind" at Regent University. Wright, a renowned biblical scholar and Anglican bishop, makes the case for Christian faith from the ground up, assuming that students have no predisposition to and perhaps even some negativity toward religion in general and Christianity in particular. Simply Christian serves as a straightforward introduction for those unfamiliar with the faith, and a source of thoughtful, accessible scholarship for those who are.

This course (
GENE 100) is the cornerstone of Regent's general education core curriculum. In "The Making of a Christian Mind," students:
  • Explore the development of a Christian worldview and philosophy of life
  • Study alternative worldviews from a Christian worldview perspective
  • Investigate the sacredness of all spheres of human life
  • Investigate the relevance of a Christian worldview to all spheres of human life and action
  • Study the works of some of Christianity's leading thinkers and writers
